The map shows the location of different Aboriginal language areas in Victoria at the time of contact with Europeans.

Around 36 languages may have been spoken in Victoria, some of which overlapped into South Australia and New South Wales.

The boundaries of Aboriginal language areas shown on this map have been based on scanty historical records that are open to interpretation. The language boundaries are therefore not conclusive. large view of map
